Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in acceptance so rapidly.
Omaha 8 or better starts like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A round of betting ensues where gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is called the flop. Another round of wagering ensues. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of betting happens at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants will have to make the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many players often get baffled. Contrasted to Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must utilize precisely three cards from the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same approach in nearly every poker game.
A lower hand is more difficult, but certainly free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand wins the whole pot.
It may seem complicated at the start, after a few hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the base subtleties of play simply enough. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better offers an overwhelming range of wagering choices and seeing that you have numerous individuals trying for the high hand, and several shooting for the low. If you love a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to play Omaha Hi-Lo.
