Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most difficult but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible variation, has grown in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha 8 or better begins just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A sequence of wagering follows in which players can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. A further sequence of wagering happens. After all the players have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further round of betting follows at which point the river card is revealed. The players will need to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where a number of entrants can get flustered. Unlike Texas Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must use exactly 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. No more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the strongest hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the very same concept in almost all poker games.
The low hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the complete pot.
While it seems complex at the outset, following a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the basic nuances of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha High-Low provides an amazing array of wagering choices and because you have numerous individuals trying for the high, along with a few battling for the low. If you like a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha/8.
