Omaha Hi/Low: General Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but favored poker variations. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible game, has expanded in acceptance so quickly.
Omaha 8 or better begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A round of wagering ensues where players can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. Another round of betting happens. Once all the gamblers have either called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering follows and then the river card is revealed. The players will need to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where some entrants get confused. Unlike Hold’em, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must utilize exactly 3 cards from the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the strongest hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical notion in almost every poker game.
The lower hand is more difficult, but certainly free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the high hand takes the entire pot.
It may seem difficult at first, following a few hands you will be agile enough to get the base subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an exciting collection of betting options and seeing that you have numerous individuals battling for the high hand, as well as several trying for the low.
