Omaha Hi/Lo: Fundamental Overview

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure variation, has expanded in popularity so quickly.
Omaha hi/lo starts exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A sequence of wagering follows in which gamblers can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. One more sequence of betting ensues. After all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering follows and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many players often get flustered. Contrasted to Holdem, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to use exactly three cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the best hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the same notion in almost every poker game.
A low hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the whole pot.
It may seem complex at first, following a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic nuances of the game with ease.
