Omaha Hi-Low: General Overview

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complicated but popular poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has grown in acceptance so quickly.
Omaha 8 or better starts just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A sequence of wagering ensues where players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. A further round of wagering happens. After all the players have in turn called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of betting ensues and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers must attempt to put together the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a number of players often get baffled. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player must use exactly 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. No more, no less. A low hand is more complicated, but really opens up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand wins the complete pot.
While it seems difficult at first, following a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the basic subtleties of play simply enough.
